Children’s Treehouses

Adults aren’t the only ones who want a summer long getaway in a resort set in the trees. And you don’t even need to go any further than your backyard for your child to get the treehouse experience.

Many playhouse manufacturers also make treehouses for you to put up in your backyard (in fact, some will even send contractors out to your home to build the whole thing right there). These can cost anywhere from a couple hundred dollars for a simple platform with a tent roof and a ladder leading up to it, to over $100,000 for elaborate 60-plus foot castles in the sky. That’s fine if you don’t have a tree in your backyard, as one company, Daniels Wood Land manufactures treehouses complete with their own tree. They take a large part of a trunk and carve the house directly out of the thick tree. These range anywhere from $1,500 to $325,000.

Kids Treehouse Accessories

Basic light weight furniture will work just find in a treehouse. This can include a small table with chairs, beanbag chairs, a throw rug, maybe even sleeping bags for those outdoor PJ parties. Your child may want some decorations as well. You could include posters, wall paper, or paint. It would be a good idea to put up a battery operated clock as well, so that they know when it’s time to come in to the real house for dinner or bedtime.

Building A Kid Treehouse

You’ll want to design the treehouse in such a way that you cause as little harm to the tree as possible. After all, you don’t want to kill a part of your property for the sake of a few summers of fun. Never sink screws or nails into the trunk of a tree. Instead, tie the framework to the tree with thick rope, and have a self-standing ladder or staircase leading to the treehouse’s entrance.

The next thing to take into account is safety of the people (children) who’ll be using the structure most. Construct the treehouse in the lower third of the tree itself. This makes the fall down much less dangerous. Also, check all walls and railings to be sure they’re really safe and aren’t going to fall of someone is jumping up and down in the treehouse.
