Greenhouse Benches
Greenhouse benches are the tables in greenhouses on which the plants sit. The first thing to consider when one is thinking of greenhouse benches is the size of your greenhouse. Is it large enough to house plants in the middle, or will this prevent you from entering the greenhouse? If you have a mini greenhouse or a portable greenhouse, you will want to skip the bench and stick to side shelving. It is easy to get greenhouse benches online in many different material types. You can get them in metal, plastic, wood, or rolling. The rolling ones are useful in commercial nurseries and may be good for you if your greenhouse is large with many plants. It will certainly make your larger plants easier to move. You will certainly want to consider the weight of your plants and make sure your bench can accommodate that weight. Baring this in mind, you could even build your own greenhouse bench using found materials such as particle board and cinder blocks.
Greenhouse Shelves
If you are building your own greenhouse you will definitely need to consider shelving. If you are buying a kit, you will also almost assuredly need to consider shelving. Most greenhouse kits come with materials for the frame, exterior, and door, not shelves. If your greenhouse is large and you decide to go with benches you may not need shelves. If your greenhouse is smaller and you don’t have room for a bench, shelves are the way to go. You can get shelving units that go flat against the wall of your greenhouse, which will give you several layers on which to put plants. If you don’t relish the idea of bending down to get to your plants you may have to forsake the bottom shelf. If you have a greenhouse with a wooden structure you could install shelving directly into the structure by simply nailing or screwing shelf supports into the beams and placing shelves on these.
Greenhouse Heated Benches
Greenhouse Heated Benches are very nice options for starting seedlings, especially if you’d like to start them in colder months. The beds take soil directly on them and then the soil is heated by a warming cable. The heat can be controlled by thermostats on most models, and it is also possible to control the humidity of the bench on many models. Some models are heated with tops for potted plants to simply help maintain a warm temperature.
