If you have a permanent greenhouse (not portable) that you want to use all year long, and it is not a passive solar greenhouse, you may find that you need a heating system. The size of heater you need depends upon the size of greenhouse you have and on how much heat your greenhouse loses. Luckily there are calculators online to find how much heat your greenhouse loses and you can then find how large a heater you’ll need. For smaller greenhouses, lean-to’s and hobby greenhouses, a small electric heater will usually work just fine. If you have a smaller greenhouse you will want to get a floor model, not hanging. If you do not have electricity running through your greenhouse it is quite important to find a heater that does not run on electricity. Some models even feature thermostats which can be very useful since the temperature of your greenhouse is vital to your plants’ health. The cost of greenhouse heaters can range anywhere from the thirty dollar range to thousands of dollars, of course depending on the size of the heater and it’s heating capability.

Gas Greenhouse Heaters

If you have a mini greenhouse then it is quite likely that you will not have electricity running through your greenhouse. If you aren’t using your greenhouse in the winter, or it is solar and manages to retain enough heat, you may not have to worry about heating. However, if it is small and you want to use it in the colder months, you will almost certainly need a heater. You could run extension chords to your lighthouse, but this could be very dangerous, especially in wet weather. A gas greenhouse heater will probably be the best option for you. They are capable of keeping frost away in small areas as long as they are contained, be it by glass or polythene. The manufacturer’s instructions will tell you what kind of gas to use. Pay close attention to this information and do not deviate from it. It could prove to be dangerous and shorten the life of you heater if you use the wrong gas.

Greenhouse Electric Heater

Greenhouse electric heaters are natural options for greenhouses that have electricity running in them. This is most likely the case in larger greenhouses or self-built greenhouses where the builder decided to run electrical lines in the greenhouse. As with all greenhouse heaters, the sizes and prices vary considerably.
