Greenhouse Kits

Greenhouse Kits

Greenhouse kits are great options for many gardeners. There are certainly those of us who like the idea of having a greenhouse, but feel a bit daunted by the idea of reading blueprints, procuring our own materials, and essentially building a large structure from scratch in our back yards. The kits are typically several hundred dollars, so it’s no slight investment, but the enjoyment they can provide makes it worth the cost to many fervent gardeners. Kits differ in shape, size and by material type, but they usually contain similar component parts. There will be pieces for a frame, often made of aluminum but not necessarily so as there will be panels. The material for these panels can range from glass to polycarbonate to what is essentially sheets of plastic insulate. Your needs depend on your climate, how much sun you get and what kinds of plants you want to grow in your greenhouse. Do keep in mind that these greenhouses usually will need heating and cooling equipment.

Indoor Greenhouses

Indoor greenhouses are similar to lager, outdoor models except, yes, they are smaller and inside your house. They can be as simple as stands with plastic coverings that cost in the one hundred dollar range. They can also be large, high-tech, glass displays that offer quite a bit of room and cost in the thousand dollar range. They can either hold pots or have soil placed directly on their floors. Also, just like the larger models, if you have good plans there is no reason that you can’t build your own indoor greenhouse. Building your own indoor greenhouse can really be whatever you want. It can be as simple as some 2x4’s to form the structure and some plastic to make a cover to keep in humidity and sunlight or even a light bulb.

Cheap Greenhouse Kits

Greenhouses are generally not cheap. Ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars, they can be pricey endeavors to many people. If this kind of price tag is a bit too dear for you, there are options that will be easier on your wallet. Lean-to’s are greenhouses that contour to the side of the house, where they are intended to be erected. Mini lean-to’s can be significantly less expensive than even mini greenhouses. They are essentially large cabinets with structure, shelves and covering like a full sized green house. You get the benefit of an outdoor greenhouse at a fraction of the cost.
