Outhouse Decor

Outhouse Décor

Outhouses are typically seen as being very rural and quaint, but it is very simple to make even an outhouse very elegant. If there are small screen windows on the sides, that is the perfect place to hang some curtains. The wood does not have to be left unfinished either. Another popular option is to paint the outhouse. Especially if there are other wooden accessories in the garden, like a trellis, painting the outhouse to match the other accessories is a very popular tactic. Small items such as soap and toilet paper dispensers can also be used to add unique and pretty touches to even the most rustic-looking of outhouses.

Outhouse Motif Décor

Outhouses can be themed in a variety of ways. Usually because of the traditionally rustic nature of outhouses, they tend to be themed more rustically. Reds and browns are usually common colors to use to achieve this kind of look. Depending on the plans for the outhouse, and whether the outhouse will remain in one spot or removed around the yard, it might require a concrete slab placed on top with a hole cut in the center. This helps to provide stability as well as more secure cover for the hole in the ground. If the outhouse has been painted white and is more quaint looking, then that opens up more decorating options. If the main house has certain themes, such as nautical or fruits, this theme could also be carried over to the outhouse to give it more character. Including reading material to match this theme, for example a book on boats, is another clever way to decorate the limited space.

Outhouse Wall Décor

The easiest way to decorate an outhouse is through painting the unfinished wood. Another way to decorate it would be to add paintings or other pictures to the inside of the outhouse. Curtains over any included screens are another way to bring color to the walls of the outhouse. Without proper ventilation or light sources, it will be easier for the outhouse to fall into disrepair. Decorating with flowers is another possibility that brings both color and a pleasant scent to the outhouse. If you attach a toilet paper dispenser to the wall, or a towel rack, this would be another way to add to the personalization of the outhouse and make it a more pleasant environment for your guests to enjoy.
